Diopside crystals from Grace Lake have been know to mineral collectors for many years. Transparent diopside suitable for faceting from this locality is quite scarce.

Diopside has a hardness of 6 on Moh's hardness scale and has 2 directions of cleavage, making its use in jewellery limited to earrings and pendants. Under normal conditions faceted diopside is considered too soft to set in rings.
