These dark red garnets come from the Lonestarr Claim, near Passmore, BC. Here, rough garnets are found in gravel deposits, not from a river bed, but from a site high up the valley wall. Most pieces of garnet from the Lonestarr Claim are small, hence gems cut from this rough are quite small. Gemstones weighing over 1/2 are extrememly large and rare from this site.
Garnet is a traditional gemstone with a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on Mohs' hardness scale. Garnet is safe for use with most jewellery designs.
